S1

S1 enjoyed a trip to Stirling Castle on Friday 16th December as part of their Wars of Independence Unit in History.

Two coaches left the school full of excited pupils and we reached the castle at about 11am. The pupils explored the castle in groups of 10 where they found a statue of Robert the Bruce on the Esplande. They also visited the Bowling Green Gardens where they looked across far end wall to see the site of the Battle of Bannockburn (those with very good eyesight anyway!)

Another highlight was the Great Kitchens where pupils could easily imagine how great feasts were prepared in Medieval Times. (Look out for the picture of the ghost in here!!!)

After the visit to the castle, pupils visited McDonald's in Stirling. A McDonald's employee called John spoke to staff on the trip and was fulsome in his praise of our pupils. He praised them for their manners and excellent behaviour.

Pupils who attended enjoyed the trip thoroughly (especially McDonald's according to a few!) and were a credit to the school throughout the day. Behaviour was impeccable on the coach, at the castle and at McDonald's so well done to all pupils involved!

Many thanks also go out to Mr Carr, Mrs Lee, Mrs Pettigrew, Mr Kerr, Mrs Smith and Mr Smith who were excellent in helping out on the day.

S2

Both S2 classes have come to the end of their study on Slavery as part of their History course. They will now move onto Modern Studies. After successfully completing an end of unit assessment on slavery (well done to all!) pupils looked at the Zong Slave ship atrocity and worked in groups to perform a role play on this event. There are possibly a few future Ewan McGregor's and Kate Winslet's in these classes!

S3

Pupils recently finished their unit on Immigrants and Exiles and after all their hard work this year had to finish by sitting a NAB exam...all pupils passed so very well done!

We have begun looking at the unit which we will study after the Christmas break which is the Road to War. So far we have had a gentle introduction to the topic.

Pupil of the Month for S3 was Casey McCracken who got a certificate and a big box of sweets for her effort, behaviour and excellent Immigrants and Exiles project! Well done Casey- I hope those sweets aren't all finished already!

S5/6 Sociology

The class have worked extremely hard recently and deserve praise for their efforts. During late November/early December they sat a NAB on their unit on Socialisation which they study with Mrs King. Pupils have received their marks for this and done well. They also sat their NAB on Mr Gemmell's unit, Studying Human Society, on Thursday 15th December and marks are available for pupils. Again, excellent effort all round.

Finally, there was a parents night for seniors on Thursday where parents/carers where advised of the dates for the Sociology prelims and final exam. These will be 18/1/12 and 8/6/12 respectively. As we return on 9/1/12 this leaves only 9 days to prepare for the prelim- pupils have been advised that Christmas has been cancelled this year!!

Enjoy your holidays and a well earned rest- same again for 2012!!
