Morzine Ski Trip
2 April 2010

At 10 am on Friday 2 April 2010, 28 pupils from Ardrossan Academy left on a coach to travel to Morzine in France for the annual snow sports trip. Although the bus journey was long the time passed quickly thanks to the quizzes, videos and of course bingo. We arrived at the centre Eaux Vives at 9:30 pm, where our rep - Solena greeted us. After a quick dinner we got our Ski and snowboard boots, ready for the next day skiing and snowboarding.

We drove the short distance to the resort centre and travelled each day up the Telecabine du Pleney (Gondola) to meet our instructors who would guide and instruct us around the mountains. The skiing and snowboarding was excellent and the fresh snow fall during the first night in the hotel had meant a great start to the week! During the week the pupils improved at both skiing and snowboarding. The beginners quickly moved from the magic carpet area onto the chairlifts and down into the next valley of Les Gets. The more advanced pupils were exploring the both Morzine and Les Gets. From the top of Pointe De Nyon (2019m) there was an excellent view of Mont Blanc - Europes largest Mountain.

In the evening we had a variety of activities to keep us all entertained. One night we went ice-skating where a group showed their dazzling skills on the ice! Another night we had a live performance from Mr Peter Gilchrist in our traditional sing-song. We also travelled up to Avoriaz, a journey of 40 minutes by bus to the resort which is car free. We walked through this town and enjoyed playing ten-pin bowling.

The pupils finished their week with a presentation by Ski School, which took place on the mountain. The pupils were well behaved and had a great time. My thanks to them for making the week enjoyable and to the staff for their support.

Next year we have planned our snow sports trip to Vars in France. The cost is slightly higher (£760), due to the fact we are flying once again. There are still some places left on this trip but they are limited. If you are interested please contact Mr Smith or Mr Carr.
