She Wolf
by Holly Morgan

Holly Morgan, an S2 pupil in session 2010-11, has won a book token for a short story she wrote after attending a Darren Shan event organised by North Ayrshire Education Resource Service. Holly had to write a horror story of no more than 247 words. Her entry, titled 'She Wolf', was awarded 2nd prize.

Here is Holly's story:

She Wolf

She was running, running so fast that the trees became a fuzzy green blur. It felt amazing!! As she approached the high rock looking down on Willows Canyon, she tossed her head back and howled a long, deep howl out to the sky....Then Seleen moor woke up. She'd just had another one of her wild dreams about being a wolf. It seemed so real that she could feel the cold air on her skin.

"And as the attacks go on, more farmers are losing their precious livestock", barked the TV presenter on Live News. "Wow, imagine a wolf did that" Seleen thought to herself.

"SELEEEEN, come here at once!!" shouted her mother. As she trudged upstairs she saw her mother's angry face. She was a short woman with wild curly blonde hair which she kept fluffing and fixing. Seleen was nothing like her mother. She was tall and lanky with straight black hair. She sometimes wondered if she had come from another family.

"There is dog hair on your bed!! EXPLAIN!! Seleen looked at her bed. Right enough, there was dog hair on her bed, and her room smelled very strongly of wet dog.

"I...errr..um". Was all she could say before her mother started barking.

"DON'T BOTHER EXPLAINING!! JUST GET OUT!!"

As Seleen stalked out of her room, she just couldn't help wondering how dog hair ended up on her bed, and maybe...just maybe had her dream become a reality....

Congratulations Holly - they loved your story!
