Lochranza Field Studies Centre
June 2011

As part of their Standard Grade course a group of thirty six S2 Geography Pupils visited the Lochranza Field Studies Centre for three days. The group was accompanied by Mrs Pettigrew, Miss Gemmell, Mr Stewart and Mr McLellan. The group spent time learning about the landscape around the centre. Hillwalking was difficult, given the weather conditions but there were great views of the Mull of Kintyre and in the distance the Hebridean island of Jura.

The pupils took part in lots of activities and were delighted to see lots of wild deer all round the centre. The gorge walk was fun and was useful in learning about various river features. Orienteering gave the pupils the chance to learn new skills with map and compass. During the mountain bike expedition they were able to see some of the features around Lochranza created by glaciers during the ice age.
