Campus Police Officer |
In February 2009 PC Robert Stewart began working at Ardrossan Academy as our resident campus police officer. PC Stewart joined the police force as a cadet in 1979 and then became a PC in 1981. He has never specifically worked in North Ayrshire until now, but has had a variety of roles within the police force throughout Ayrshire. These include working as a Community Police Officer in East Ayrshire, a Community Safety Officer, dealing with crime prevention and personal safety, with the last 3 years spent working across Ayrshire as the Drugs Awareness Officer. PC Stewart applied for the job as our campus officer as he enjoys working with young people. Most of his previous roles have involved working in schools and he felt he could provide a positive influence for pupils. His main aim is to improve relationships between young people and the police. He also hopes to improve safety and help make pupils feel safe and secure within the school environment. He would like to develop the role further and become more involved in the education of pupils with regard to subjects such as drugs awareness and anti-social behaviour. PC Stewart was involved in the recent work experience placements of 15 pupils from North Ayrshire schools, including two of our own boys. He enjoyed the week working with the group, who he felt had a very good attitude and participated well in all activities offered. He said the feedback from pupils was positive and they felt they had gained a good insight into the work of the police and courts. In fact they conducted their own mock trial in the North Ayrshire District Court, with PC Stewart as the judge! Of course, it's not just about work, PC Stewart would like to start an S2 football team and become involved in the after school badminton club. PC Stewart says Ardrossan Academy pupils are very friendly and have been "absolutely brilliant from day one", making him feel very welcome, chatting to him in the playground when they see him. Let's hope he continues to enjoy his work at the school for many years to come and remember, if there are any budding David Beckhams in S2 wishing to become part of a team, speak to PC Stewart for more details. You'll often find him at the astro turf at lunchtime. |
