| On 27th June past and present teachers gathered to honour Mr Pennel on the occasion of his retiral from the Academy. Mr Stratton was in the chair, and a wallet ofÊnotes and a portrait in oils of Mr Pennel by Mr Strong, were handed over by Mr J.P.Murray. Mrs Pennel was presented with a bon-bon dish by Miss Miller. Mr Pennel, in thanking the staff, concluded by saying " Long may the Academy flourish " - surely an inspiring motto. The following day Mr Pennel received gifts from the Primary and Secondary pupils. At the former occasion Kenneth Simpson was in the chair, when Ian Douglas made the presentation of an easy chair and clock. During the Secondary function, which was presided over by Prefect William Lawrence, Catherine Martindale presented the Rector with a set of sectional bookcases. |
